Atlas Trail
Twelve Juxtaposition Crosses in Order of the Personality Sun Gate, from Gate 1 to Gate 12
In Human Design the Juxtaposition family is the smallest of the three cross angles, tied only to the four line one profile and read as the most fixed direction the system names. This path takes twelve of these crosses in the order of the gate that opens each name, from Gate 1 to Gate 12, so you can see how the same family pairs one hexagram with another and gives the pair a single life theme. Every number comes from the I Ching, while the grouping into one cross is the modern system's own construction.
Stop 1 of 12.
Human Design Crosses
Opens the sequence on Gate 1, Creative Self Expression (Hexagram 1, The Creative), paired with Gate 2, Receptive Direction. Both gates sit in the G or Identity centre, so the cross joins the urge to give creative direction outward form with the receptive sense of where a life is meant to go.
Stop 2 of 12.
Human Design Crosses
The same two gates as the previous stop with the order reversed, Gate 2 leading and Gate 1 following. The atlas records it as The Driver, a case where reversing the pair changes the cross and its theme while both gates stay in the G or Identity centre.
Stop 3 of 12.
Human Design Crosses
Gate 3, Ordering Through Difficulty (Hexagram 3, Difficulty at the Beginning), sits in the Sacral centre and is read as the energy to bring order out of a new beginning. It is paired with Gate 50, Values And Responsibility (The Cauldron), in the Spleen, the instinctive sense of responsibility that guards a group and its rules.
Stop 4 of 12.
Human Design Crosses
Gate 4, Formulating Answers (Hexagram 4, Youthful Folly), sits in the Ajna and is read as the mental habit of offering answers to open questions. Gate 49, Principled Revolution (Hexagram 49, Revolution), sits in the Solar Plexus and is read as the sense of what is acceptable. The two gates sit in different centres, one mental and one emotional.
Stop 5 of 12.
Human Design Crosses
Gate 5, Natural Rhythms (Hexagram 5, Waiting), sits in the Sacral centre and is read as a fixed inner timing that governs eating, sleeping and working. Gate 35, Progress Through Change (Hexagram 35, Progress), sits in the Throat and is read as a hunger for progress and for new experience. The name Habits describes the first of these.
Stop 6 of 12.
Human Design Crosses
Gate 6, Emotional Friction (Hexagram 6, Conflict), and Gate 36, Emotional Crisis (Hexagram 36, Darkening of the Light), both sit in the Solar Plexus. The cross is named for the friction that guards and opens intimate contact and the turbulence of an experience that is genuinely new.
Stop 7 of 12.
Human Design Crosses
Gate 7, Leadership By Role (Hexagram 7, The Army), and Gate 13, The Listener (Hexagram 13, Fellowship), both sit in the G or Identity centre. The entry reads the pair as the self cast as leader, guiding toward a shared future, and the one to whom others confide the past.
Stop 8 of 12.
Human Design Crosses
Gate 8, Individual Contribution (Hexagram 8, Holding Together), sits in the Throat and is read as the urge to contribute an individual style and stand behind it publicly. Gate 14, Skilled Power (Hexagram 14, Great Possession), sits in the Sacral centre and directs resources toward work worth doing.
Stop 9 of 12.
Human Design Crosses
Gate 9, Focused Detail (Hexagram 9, Small Taming), sits in the Sacral centre and is read as the capacity to attend to the small details a larger idea depends on. Gate 16, Enthusiastic Skill (Hexagram 16, Enthusiasm), sits in the Throat and is read as enthusiasm refined by repetition into real skill.
Stop 10 of 12.
Human Design Crosses
Gate 10, Love Of Self (Hexagram 10, Treading), and Gate 15, Embracing Extremes (Hexagram 15, Modesty), both sit in the G or Identity centre. The pair is read as conduct that stays true to one's own nature, joined with a love of humanity broad enough to embrace extremes.
Stop 11 of 12.
Human Design Crosses
Gate 11, Ideas And Meaning (Hexagram 11, Peace), sits in the Ajna and is read as a mind full of ideas that want to be told. Gate 12, Cautious Expression (Hexagram 12, Standstill), sits in the Throat and is read as expression that arrives only in the right mood and moment.
Stop 12 of 12.
Human Design Crosses
Closes the path with the reverse of the previous stop, Gate 12 leading and Gate 11 following. As with Gates 1 and 2, the atlas records the reversed pair as its own cross, here named Articulation, with the same Throat and Ajna gates read in the opposite order.
