Origin Attested throughout the Adi Granth, compiled by Guru Arjan in 1604, with final recension attributed to Guru Gobind Singh in 1706.

Humility, one of the five Sikh virtues (Panj Gun) opposing the Panj Vikar, held as the direct counter to ahankar (ego, the fifth of the Five Thieves) and embodied institutionally in practices such as seva (selfless service) and the shared, hierarchy-levelling meal of the langar.
