Po Jun

Po Jun, the army breaker, closes the fourteen major stars on a note of upheaval, read by the tradition as the star of destruction that clears ground for renewal, a force that tears down an existing order rather than working within one, pioneering rather than preserving, and restless in a way that finds settled, unchanging circumstances genuinely difficult to bear. Its people are read as natural innovators and, where the surrounding chart supports it, natural leaders of exactly the kind of dramatic change other, more conservative stars such as Tian Fu are read as resisting, a willingness to break what no longer serves in order to build something better in its place. This same quality carries an obvious risk the tradition states plainly: Po Jun poorly supported is read as bringing destruction without the renewal that is meant to follow it, upheaval for its own sake rather than as the necessary first step of a genuine rebuilding, and practitioners generally treat this star as one of the most demanding in the whole system to read responsibly, its favourable and unfavourable expressions turning almost entirely on the quality of the stars and palace surrounding it rather than on any fixed character of its own.

Po Jun is the eighth and final star of the Tian Fu series, its chart position fixed at a set offset from Tian Fu's own calculated palace, closing an order that runs Tian Fu, Tai Yin, Tan Lang, Ju Men, Tian Xiang, Tian Liang and Qi Sha before it, the series' most forceful and disruptive stars, Qi Sha and Po Jun, both positioned at its very end.

Read together with Lian Zhen, the volatile closing star of the six member Zi Wei series, Po Jun means that both of the system's two founding star series end on their most difficult, double edged member rather than on a settled or straightforwardly favourable note, a pattern Ho Peng Yoke's account of the system does not connect to any stated design principle but which later practitioners within the tradition have found a suggestive symmetry regardless.

Po Jun's presence in a chart's Career Palace specifically is read by the tradition as favouring careers built on genuine disruption and reinvention, entrepreneurship, radical reform, the arts at their most experimental, fields where breaking an existing order is precisely the value being offered rather than a cost to be managed, the star's destructive reputation finding its most legitimate and rewarded expression in exactly that kind of work.
