Anyone reading both the Gene Keys and Human Design entries in this atlas will notice that the same sixty-four numbers carry two different vocabularies. It is worth being precise about the nature of the divergence.
They agree on the skeleton. Same sixty-four positions, same King Wen numbering, same wheel, same method of calculating a chart from planetary positions, same pairing of opposite positions.
They disagree on what a position is. Human Design treats it as a piece of mechanics: a gate in a specific centre, half of a specific channel, contributing to a defined or undefined state and thence to a type and an authority. The position tells you something about how a body operates. The Gene Keys treats the same position as a spectrum of consciousness with no location in a body diagram at all, and the position tells you something about a range of possible expression.
They disagree on what to do. Human Design issues a strategy and an authority and asks for an experiment run over years. The Gene Keys issues no instruction and asks for contemplation.
They disagree on register. Ra Uru Hu's teaching is blunt, mechanical and often deliberately unsentimental, describing human beings as vehicles operating according to a design. Rudd's is devotional and warm, and the terminal states of his sixty-four spectra are things like beauty, grace, compassion and universal love.
The divergence is real and Rudd left the earlier school to pursue it. But it is a divergence, not an independent origin: the Gene Keys is a reworking of Human Design by someone who had taught Human Design, and its structure is inherited rather than found.
