Human Design distinguishes three awareness centres, and holds that they operate on quite different timescales. The distinction is one of the system's more useful pieces of internal architecture and it bears directly on how gates like this one are read.
The Spleen is the oldest of the three in the system's account, tied to survival and the immune response. Its awareness is instantaneous and non-repeating: it registers in the present moment, it is quiet rather than loud, and Human Design insists emphatically that it speaks once. If it is not heeded it does not repeat itself, which is why practitioners describe splenic knowing as easily overridden by the mind.
The Ajna is mental awareness. It works by review, comparison and pattern, which means it works over time and can return to the same material repeatedly. It is also, in this system, explicitly not to be trusted with decisions about one's own life.
The Solar Plexus is emotional awareness, and it works slowest of all. Human Design holds that emotion moves in waves with peaks and troughs, that no moment of the wave contains the truth, and that clarity comes only from riding it out. Where the Solar Plexus is defined, the instruction is that there is no truth in the now.
So the three run at different speeds: instant, iterative, and slow. Gate 57 sits in the Spleen and carries the first of them, which Human Design associates specifically with hearing rather than with sight.
The taxonomy is Ra Uru Hu's. The fifty-seventh hexagram of the I Ching, The Gentle, describes wind penetrating by persistence over time, which is close to the opposite of instantaneous, and the shift is a good illustration of how freely the modern layer reworks what it borrows.
