The Juxtaposition Cross of Denial is named here for Gate 40 and Gate 37. Its first article reads Gate 40 as willpower to work, balanced against a real need for solitude, now the more exposed gate, and Gate 37 as the warmth and the bargain that holds a household together. What it does not trace is where the four gates sit on the wheel itself, the Human Design mandala's division of its sixty four gates into four Quarters, and by that measure this cross draws one gate from each of the four.
Gate 40, the personality gate here, falls in the Quarter of Duality, purpose fulfilled through bonding. Gate 37, its personality partner, falls in the Quarter of Initiation, purpose fulfilled through mind. Behind them, Gate 35 falls in the Quarter of Civilization, purpose fulfilled through form, and Gate 5 falls in the Quarter of Mutation, purpose fulfilled through transformation.
So the earned solitude and the family bargain the first article reads on this cross's surface answer to the arcs of bonding and mind, while the hunger for progress and the fixed rhythm beneath them answer to the arcs of form and transformation. The same pair, exchanged, is this cross's own reversal, the Juxtaposition Cross of Bargains, and, held instead in the Left Angle family, the Cross of Migration, both orderings; the Right Angle family carries the identical pair too, as the Cross of Planning, both orderings. Four gates, four different Quarters, no pair sharing an arc: this cross draws its whole reading from every corner of the wheel's own purpose rather than concentrated in one.
