The Juxtaposition Cross of Mutation is named here for Gate 3 and Gate 50. Its first article reads Gate 3 as the pressure to bring order out of a genuinely new start, now the more exposed gate, and Gate 50 as the instinctive sense of responsibility that guards a group and decides its rules. What it does not trace is where the four gates sit on the wheel itself, the Human Design mandala's division of its sixty four gates into four Quarters, and by that measure this cross draws one gate from each of the four.
Gate 3, the personality gate here, falls in the Quarter of Initiation, purpose fulfilled through mind. Gate 50, its personality partner, falls in the Quarter of Duality, purpose fulfilled through bonding. Behind them, Gate 41 falls in the Quarter of Mutation, purpose fulfilled through transformation, and Gate 31 falls in the Quarter of Civilization, purpose fulfilled through form.
So the ordering pressure and the guarded group values the first article reads on this cross's surface answer to the arcs of mind and bonding, while the opening cycle of feeling and the recognised, elected voice beneath them answer to the arcs of transformation and form. The same pair, exchanged, is this cross's own reversal, the Juxtaposition Cross of Values, and, held instead in the Left Angle family, the Cross of Wishes, both orderings; the Right Angle family carries the identical pair too, as the Cross of Laws, both orderings. Four gates, four different Quarters, no pair sharing an arc: this cross draws its whole reading from every corner of the wheel's own purpose rather than concentrated in one.
