The Juxtaposition Cross of Opposition is named for Gate 38 and Gate 39, both seated in the Root, the same pair the Cross of Opinions carries as its design half. Human Design reads Gate 38, from Hexagram 38, Opposition, as the drive to oppose, needing something worth opposing so the fight has a point; and Gate 39, from Hexagram 39, Obstruction, as the pressure that stirs feeling in others to test what spirit is there. Juxtaposition Crosses form their own family, belonging only to the four line one profile, and Human Design reads them as the tightest, least steerable of the three kinds.
Its design half is Gate 57 and Gate 51. Gate 57 sits in the Spleen and is read as intuition in the present moment, read through hearing rather than sight; it belongs to the closed group of four Integration gates. Gate 51 sits in the Heart, or Will, centre and is read as competitive courage that goes first and can startle others awake; it pairs with Gate 25 in the channel of Initiation.
So a chart carrying this cross opposes and provokes on its Root surface, while beneath it a hearing intuition answers to a shocking, initiating will, the same two design gates the Cross of Individualism also carries as its own design half. The hexagrams are ancient; grouping them into one incarnation cross is the modern system's own construction.
