The Left Angle Cross of Obscuration is named for Gate 62 and Gate 61. Human Design reads Gate 62, from Hexagram 62, Preponderance of the Small, sitting in the Throat, as detail, the organising of facts and particulars into an order that can be spoken; and Gate 61, from Hexagram 61, Inner Truth, sitting in the Head, as the pressure to know the mystery behind existence, a pressure the system holds cannot be satisfied by information. It falls in the Left Angle family, which practitioners read as fated in flavour, serving something beyond the individual rather than a self chosen plan.
Its design half is Gate 3 and Gate 50. Gate 3 sits in the Sacral centre and is read as the energy to bring order out of the confusion that attends anything genuinely new; it pairs with Gate 60 in the channel of Mutation. Gate 50 sits in the Spleen and is read as values, the instinctive sense of responsibility that guards a group and decides its rules; it pairs with Gate 27 in the channel of Preservation.
So a chart carrying this cross speaks in ordered detail while pressing after an unanswerable mystery on its surface, while beneath it a hard beginning answers to an inherited sense of responsibility. The same four gates also underlie the Juxtaposition Cross of Thinking, and mirrored, the Left Angle Cross of Obscuration reversed; this exact ordering also recurs as the Juxtaposition Cross of Detail. The numbers are inherited from the I Ching; reading them as one cross belongs to the modern reading, not the classical one.
