The Left Angle Cross of Refinement, in this ordering, is named for Gate 33 and Gate 19 rather than Gate 19 and Gate 33, the same four gates as its mirror cross with the personality and design roles exchanged. Its first article reads that exchange as withdrawal placed ahead of sensed need. What it does not trace is where the four gates sit on the wheel itself, the Human Design mandala's division of its sixty four gates into four Quarters, and by that measure this ordering draws from the same two Quarters as its mirror, not one from each of the four.
Gate 33, the personality gate here, falls in the Quarter of Civilization, purpose fulfilled through form. Gate 19, its personality partner, falls in the Quarter of Mutation, purpose fulfilled through transformation. Behind them, Gate 2 falls in the same Quarter of Civilization as Gate 33, and Gate 1 falls in the same Quarter of Mutation as Gate 19.
So this ordering still draws its whole reading from two arcs rather than four: the private retreat and the receptive sense of direction beneath it both answer to the arc of form, while the sensed need and the creative direction beneath it both answer to the arc of transformation. Reversing which gate carries the Sun changes what the cross is read to serve, but the wheel's own arithmetic supplies the same two Quarters either way.
