This path is assigned the tarot trump The Tower, and the pairing draws directly on the letter Peh's planet Mars: the Tower, the card of the lightning-struck tower, of sudden ruin, upheaval and the violent shattering of false structures, answers to Mars, the planet of destruction and abrupt force, and to Peh, the "mouth", read as the thunderclap or the word that brings the edifice down.
The Golden Dawn read the Tower as the necessary and shattering breakthrough of higher force into a rigid form. The mapping of letters to tarot trumps descends from Eliphas Levi and was fixed by the Golden Dawn from 1888, as published in Liber 777. The provenance must be kept clear. The path from Netzach to Hod, the letter Peh, and its attribution to Mars are Jewish in origin, from the Sefer Yetzirah, whereas the correspondence to the Tower is Hermetic Qabalah, the modern Western esoteric adaptation of 1888, a magical overlay distinct from Jewish Kabbalah.
