The twenty-seventh path is the lowest of the horizontal paths, joining Netzach, Victory, to Hod, Splendour, and linking the sphere of the emotions to the sphere of the intellect across the base of the Tree, below the central Tiphareth. It carries the letter Peh, whose name means "mouth", the organ of speech, and by extension the word, expression and the power of utterance, the mouth that speaks worlds into being.
In the Sefer Yetzirah Peh is one of the seven double letters assigned to the seven planets, and it is given to Mars, the planet of force, conflict and sudden action. The seven doubles also govern seven pairs of opposites, and the pairing of Mars with the letter of the mouth suits a path associated with abrupt speech and the shattering word. The planetary attribution comes from the ancient Jewish source, where the doubles map onto the seven planets that govern the visible heavens and the days of the week.
