This Right Angle Cross of Penetration is named for Gate 54 and Gate 53 rather than Gate 53 and Gate 54, ambition placed ahead of the pressure to begin. Its first article reads Gate 54 as ambition, the drive to rise, be recognised and transform one's material circumstances, and Gate 53 as the pressure to begin, an impulse that often has no interest in seeing a thing through. What it does not trace is where the four gates sit on the wheel itself, the Human Design mandala's division of its sixty four gates into four Quarters, and by that measure this ordering draws on exactly the same four Quarters as the rest of the family, one gate from each.
Gate 54, the personality gate here, falls in the Quarter of Mutation, purpose fulfilled through transformation. Gate 53, its personality partner, falls in the Quarter of Civilization, purpose fulfilled through form. Behind them, Gate 57 falls in the Quarter of Duality, purpose fulfilled through bonding, and Gate 51 falls in the Quarter of Initiation, purpose fulfilled through mind.
So the ambition and the pressure to begin the first article reads on this ordering's surface answer to the arcs of transformation and form, while the intuition and the startling courage beneath them answer to the arcs of bonding and mind, the same four arcs the rest of the Penetration family draws on however its two pairs are assigned to personality and design. Placing ambition ahead of impulse changes what this variant puts forward, but not which Quarters supply its four gates.
