The Right Angle Cross of the Sleeping Phoenix carries the same pair as the earlier Cross of the Sleeping Phoenix with sun and earth exchanged, Gate 55 and Gate 59. Human Design reads Gate 55, from Hexagram 55, Abundance, sits in the Solar Plexus and is read as an emotional weather swinging between melancholy and abundance, now the more exposed gate; and Gate 59, from Hexagram 59, Dispersion, sits in the Sacral centre and is read as the energy that breaks down barriers between people. It belongs to the Right Angle family, the largest of the system's three, read as a personal destiny that answers mainly to the individual's own choices.
Its design half is Gate 34 and Gate 20, also exchanged, two of the four Integration gates directly linked to each other. Gate 34 sits in the Sacral centre and is read as pure power, most potent simply being itself rather than aimed at anyone. Gate 20 sits in the Throat and is read as awareness and expression that occur now rather than in reflection.
Putting a swinging mood ahead of dissolved barriers changes what this cross puts forward first, while the same raw power and present-moment voice sit beneath it regardless of order. The hexagrams are ancient; grouping four of them into one personal cross is the modern system's own construction, dated to 1987.
