Making Shakti equivalent to Brahman carries real philosophical weight inside a tradition, Advaita Vedanta, that has classically described Brahman as nirguna, without qualities, and beyond action, closer to still awareness than to dynamic power. Shaktism does not reject Brahman as the name for ultimate reality; it insists that Brahman, properly understood, just is Shakti, that stillness and power are not two things but one reality described from two sides, and that a philosophy which treats ultimate reality as inert consciousness alone has mistaken one face of the absolute for the whole of it. This is a contested claim, not a neutral restatement of shared Hindu premises, and other schools have not generally accepted it in Shaktism's own terms.
In practice the doctrine reshapes the whole shape of devotion and philosophy alike. Where Vaishnavism and Shaivism organize theology around a supreme personal god addressed with masculine pronouns, Shaktism addresses ultimate reality as Devi, Mother, using maternal and often fierce, protective imagery rather than the kingly or ascetic imagery more common to Vishnu and Shiva. Tantric Shakta lineages such as Shri Vidya develop this identification into an elaborate ritual and meditative system built around the Goddess as Tripurasundari, while popular Shaktism, centered on festivals such as Durga Puja and Navaratri, carries the same underlying claim, that the power behind the world is, at the deepest level, female and supreme, into ordinary household and civic religious life.
