BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha, formally Bochasanwasi Shri Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha, is a branch of the Swaminarayan Sampradaya within Hinduism, registered in England and Wales as a charity (number 1143083) and a company limited by guarantee (number 07313272). History & Origin
Founded when Shastriji Maharaj left the Vadtal diocese of the Swaminarayan Sampraday with five fellow ascetics and about 150 lay devotees over a doctrinal dispute, then consecrated murtis of Swaminarayan and Gunatitanand Swami together in the central shrine of a newly built mandir at Bochasan, the first mandir to house both together and the act that established BAPS as a distinct organization.

BAPS separated from the Vadtal diocese of the Swaminarayan Sampradaya in 1905 to 1907, a parent body distinct from BAPS itself, but no entity for that diocese or for the wider Swaminarayan Sampradaya as a parent organization currently exists in the atlas, so BAPS's branch-of relation has no live target to point at.
