Juxtaposition Cross of Crisis (36/6)

The Juxtaposition Cross of Crisis is named for Gate 36 and Gate 6, both seated in the Solar Plexus. Human Design reads Gate 36, from Hexagram 36, Darkening of the Light, as the turbulence of an experience that is genuinely new, and Gate 6, from Hexagram 6, Conflict, as the friction that both guards and opens intimate and sexual contact. Juxtaposition Crosses are set apart from the Right Angle and Left Angle families, reserved for the four line one profile, and read as fixed almost past the point of alternative.

Its design half is Gate 10 and Gate 15, both in the G, or Identity, centre. Gate 10 is read as conduct that stays true to one's own nature rather than to expectation, pairing elsewhere with Gate 20 in the channel of Awakening. Gate 15 is read as a love of humanity broad enough to embrace extremes, with no fixed rhythm of its own; it pairs with Gate 5 in the channel of Rhythm.

So a chart carrying this cross meets emotional turbulence and intimate friction on the surface, both fixed to the Solar Plexus, while beneath it an Identity centre pair of self-regard and tolerance for extremity carries the design half. The numbers are inherited from the I Ching; reading them as one cross belongs to the modern reading, not the classical one.

What it does not trace is where the four gates sit on the wheel itself, the Human Design mandala's division of its sixty four gates into four Quarters, and by that measure this cross draws one gate from each of the four.

Gate 36, the personality gate here, falls in the Quarter of Initiation, purpose fulfilled through mind. Gate 6, its personality partner, falls in the Quarter of Duality, purpose fulfilled through bonding. Behind them, Gate 10 falls in the Quarter of Mutation, purpose fulfilled through transformation, and Gate 15 falls in the Quarter of Civilization, purpose fulfilled through form.

So the genuine turbulence and the guarded friction the first article reads on this cross's surface answer to the arcs of mind and bonding, while the loyalty to one's own nature and the tolerance for extremes beneath them answer to the arcs of transformation and form. The same pair, exchanged, is this cross's own reversal, the Juxtaposition Cross of Conflict, and, held instead in the Left Angle family, the Cross of the Plane, both orderings; the Right Angle family carries the identical pair too, as the Cross of Eden. Four gates, four different Quarters, no pair sharing an arc: this cross draws its whole reading from every corner of the wheel's own purpose rather than concentrated in one.
