Juxtaposition Cross of Experimentation (16/9)

The Juxtaposition Cross of Experimentation is named for Gate 16 and Gate 9. Human Design reads Gate 16, from Hexagram 16, Enthusiasm, sitting in the Throat, as enthusiasm refined by repetition into real skill; and Gate 9, from Hexagram 9, The Taming Power of the Small, sitting in the Sacral centre, as the capacity to attend to the small details a larger idea depends on. Juxtaposition Crosses form their own family, belonging only to the four line one profile, and Human Design reads them as the tightest, least steerable of the three kinds.

Its design half is Gate 63 and Gate 64, both seated in the Head. Gate 63 is read as doubt, the pressure to question and look for the flaw in a pattern before accepting it; it pairs with Gate 4 in the channel of Logic. Gate 64 is read as confusion, unresolved images working themselves slowly toward a clarity that arrives on its own schedule; it pairs with Gate 47 in the channel of Abstraction.

So a chart carrying this cross tests skill against small detail on its surface, while beneath it a doubting mind waits on a clarity it cannot force. The same pair also underlies the Left Angle Cross of Identification, and reverses as the Juxtaposition Cross of Focus. Both hexagrams are old texts; pairing them this way as a life direction dates from the system's founding in 1987.

So the refined skill and the attended detail the first article reads on this cross's surface answer to the arcs of form and transformation, while the questioning mind and the confusion still working toward clarity beneath them answer to the arcs of mind and bonding, the same two design gates the Juxtaposition Cross of Doubts carries as its own personality half. The same pair, exchanged, is this cross's own reversal, the Juxtaposition Cross of Focus, and, held instead in the Left Angle family, the Cross of Identification, and in the Right Angle family, the Cross of Planning. Four gates, four different Quarters, no pair sharing an arc: this cross draws its whole reading from every corner of the wheel's own purpose rather than concentrated in one.
