Juxtaposition Cross of Power (34/20)

The Juxtaposition Cross of Power is named for Gate 34 and Gate 20, two of the four Integration gates directly linked to each other. Human Design reads Gate 34, from Hexagram 34, Great Power, sits in the Sacral centre and is read as pure power, most potent simply being itself rather than aimed at anyone; and Gate 20, from Hexagram 20, Contemplation, sits in the Throat and is read as awareness and expression that occur now rather than in reflection. Juxtaposition Crosses stand apart from the other two families, tied only to the four line one profile, and are read as the most fixed direction the system names.

Its design half is Gate 40 and Gate 37, which are in fact the two ends of one channel, Community. Gate 40 sits in the Heart, or Will, centre and is read as the willpower to work, held against a real need for aloneness and rest. Gate 37 sits in the Solar Plexus and is read as the warmth of family and friendship, specifically the bargain that holds a household together.

So a chart carrying this cross fixes raw, self-contained power to an immediate present-moment voice on the surface, both drawn from the tightly linked Integration gates, while beneath it a whole channel of will and belonging supplies the design half. The hexagrams are ancient; grouping them into one fixed cross is the modern system's own construction.

What it does not trace is where the four gates sit on the wheel itself, the Human Design mandala's division of its sixty four gates into four Quarters, and by that measure this cross draws one gate from each of the four.

Gate 34, the personality gate here, falls in the Quarter of Mutation, purpose fulfilled through transformation. Gate 20, its personality partner, falls in the Quarter of Civilization, purpose fulfilled through form. Behind them, Gate 40 falls in the Quarter of Duality, purpose fulfilled through bonding, and Gate 37 falls in the Quarter of Initiation, purpose fulfilled through mind.

So the potent power and the present moment voice the first article reads on this cross's surface answer to the arcs of transformation and form, while the willpower to work and the household bargain beneath them answer to the arcs of bonding and mind. The same pair, exchanged, is this cross's own reversal, the Juxtaposition Cross of the Now, and, held instead in the Left Angle family, the Cross of Duality, both orderings; the Right Angle family carries the identical pair too, as the Cross of the Sleeping Phoenix, both orderings. Four gates, four different Quarters, no pair sharing an arc: this cross draws its whole reading from every corner of the wheel's own purpose rather than concentrated in one.
