Juxtaposition Cross of Rationalization (24/44)

The Juxtaposition Cross of Rationalization is named for Gate 24 and Gate 44. Human Design reads Gate 24, from Hexagram 24, Return, as a mind circling the same thought repeatedly until it finally resolves, and Gate 44, from Hexagram 44, Coming to Meet, as an instinctive memory for people and patterns, a sense of who can be relied on. Juxtaposition Crosses are set apart from the Right Angle and Left Angle families, reserved for the four line one profile, and read as fixed almost past the point of alternative.

Its design half is Gate 13 and Gate 7, both in the G, or Identity, centre. Gate 13 is read as the listener, holding what others confide and bearing witness to the past; elsewhere it pairs with Gate 33 in the channel of the Prodigal. Gate 7 is read as the self cast in a role of leadership, guiding others without necessarily holding formal power; it pairs with Gate 31 in the channel of the Alpha.

So a chart carrying this cross circles a thought until it resolves, Gate 24, while a splenic memory for who can be trusted, Gate 44, works beside it, and beneath both an Identity centre pair of witness and leadership, Gate 13 and Gate 7, carries the design half. The numbers are inherited from the I Ching; reading them as one cross belongs to the modern reading, not the classical one.

What it does not trace is where the four gates sit on the wheel itself, the Human Design mandala's division of its sixty four gates into four Quarters, and by that measure this cross draws from only two of the four, not one from each.

Gate 24, the personality gate here, falls in the Quarter of Initiation, purpose fulfilled through mind. Gate 44, its personality partner, falls in the Quarter of Duality, purpose fulfilled through bonding. Behind them, Gate 13 falls in the same Quarter of Initiation as Gate 24, and Gate 7 falls in the same Quarter of Duality as Gate 44.

So this cross, unlike most of its cohort, draws its whole reading from two arcs rather than four: the circling thought and the listener's witness beneath it both answer to the arc of mind, while the instinctive memory for people and the claimed role of leadership beneath it both answer to the arc of bonding. The same pair, exchanged, is this cross's own reversal, the Juxtaposition Cross of Alertness, which carries the identical concentration since the same four gates run beneath both orderings. The same four gates also underlie the Left Angle Cross of Incarnation, both orderings, and the Right Angle Cross of the Four Ways, both orderings, a concentration the wheel's own arithmetic does not require of every cross but this family happens to carry.
