Left Angle Cross of Confrontation (45/26)

The Left Angle Cross of Confrontation carries the same pair as the earlier Cross of Confrontation with sun and earth exchanged, Gate 45 and Gate 26. Human Design reads Gate 45, from Hexagram 45, Gathering Together, sitting in the Throat, as the gatherer, the voice that holds and distributes a group's resources, now the more exposed gate; and Gate 26, from Hexagram 26, The Taming Power of the Great, sitting in the Heart or Will centre, as the persuader, a willed salesmanship that can market and, unchecked, exaggerate. It falls in the Left Angle family, which practitioners read as fated in flavour, serving something beyond the individual rather than a self chosen plan.

Its design half is Gate 36 and Gate 6, also exchanged, both seated in the Solar Plexus. Gate 36 is read as the turbulence of an experience that is genuinely new. Gate 6 is read as the friction that both guards and opens intimate and sexual contact.

Putting the gatherer's voice ahead of persuasion changes what this cross puts forward first, while the same emotional turbulence and guarded intimacy sit beneath it regardless of order. The same four gates also underlie the Juxtaposition Cross of the Trickster and the Juxtaposition Cross of Possession. The numbers are inherited from the I Ching; reading them as one cross belongs to the modern reading, not the classical one.

This Left Angle Cross of Confrontation completes its two role arrangements with this ordering, Gate 45 and Gate 26 exposed, the gatherer ahead of the persuader. Its first article reads Gate 45 as the gatherer, the voice that holds and distributes a group's resources, now the more exposed gate, and Gate 26 as the persuader, a willed salesmanship that can market and, unchecked, exaggerate. What it does not trace is where the four gates sit on the wheel itself, the Human Design mandala's division of its sixty four gates into four Quarters, and by that measure this ordering draws one gate from each of the four.

Gate 45, the personality gate here, falls in the Quarter of Civilization, purpose fulfilled through form. Gate 26, its personality partner, falls in the Quarter of Mutation, purpose fulfilled through transformation. Behind them, Gate 36 falls in the Quarter of Initiation, purpose fulfilled through mind, and Gate 6 falls in the Quarter of Duality, purpose fulfilled through bonding.

So the gathering and the persuasion the first article reads on this ordering's surface answer to the arcs of form and transformation, while the turbulence and the guarded intimacy beneath them answer to the arcs of mind and bonding, the same four arcs the earlier ordering of Confrontation also draws on however its two pairs are assigned to personality and design, and the same four gates that also underlie the Juxtaposition Cross of the Trickster and the Juxtaposition Cross of Possession. With both arrangements in place, Confrontation's two gate pairs share the same wheel wide spread, one gate from each Quarter regardless of order.
