Left Angle Cross of Obscuration (61/62)

The Left Angle Cross of Obscuration is named for Gate 61 and Gate 62, the same pair that names the Juxtaposition Cross of Thinking, here read inside a different angle family. Human Design reads Gate 61, from Hexagram 61, Inner Truth, as the pressure to know the mystery behind existence, and Gate 62, from Hexagram 62, Small Preponderance, as the organising of facts and particulars into an order that can be spoken. It belongs to the Left Angle family, read as transpersonal, a direction practitioners describe as answering less to personal choice than to what circumstance hands the individual, which is where the cross reads its name of obscuration from.

Its design half is Gate 50 and Gate 3. Gate 50 sits in the Spleen and is read as values, the instinctive sense of responsibility that guards a group and decides its rules; elsewhere it pairs with Gate 27 in the channel of Preservation. Gate 3 sits in the Sacral centre and is read as the energy to bring order out of the confusion that attends anything genuinely new; it pairs with Gate 60 in the channel of Mutation.

Carrying the same gates as a fixed Juxtaposition cross but inside a transpersonal, Left Angle reading changes what the pattern is understood to serve, a mystery handed back by circumstance rather than a note simply held. The hexagrams are ancient; the pairing and the angle both belong to the modern system, dated to 1987.

Gate 62, its personality partner, falls in the Quarter of Civilization, purpose fulfilled through form. Behind them, Gate 50 falls in the Quarter of Duality, purpose fulfilled through bonding, and Gate 3 falls in the Quarter of Initiation, purpose fulfilled through mind.

So the mystery pressed after and the ordered detail the first article reads on this cross's surface answer to the arcs of transformation and form, while the guarded responsibility and the pressure to begin beneath them answer to the arcs of bonding and mind, the same four arcs the cross's own reversal, Gate 62 over Gate 61, will draw on again however its two pairs are assigned to personality and design. Four gates, four different Quarters, no pair sharing an arc: this cross draws its whole reading from every corner of the wheel's own purpose rather than concentrated in one.
