Left Angle Cross of Prevention (10/15)

The Left Angle Cross of Prevention is named for Gate 10 and Gate 15, both seated in the G, or Identity, centre. Human Design reads Gate 10, from Hexagram 10, Treading, as conduct that stays true to one's own nature rather than to expectation, and Gate 15, from Hexagram 15, Modesty, as a love of humanity broad enough to embrace extremes, with no fixed rhythm of its own. It falls in the Left Angle family, which practitioners read as transpersonal, a direction answering less to what the individual chooses than to what circumstance hands back, which is where the cross's name of prevention is read from.

Its design half, carried unconsciously, is Gate 18 and Gate 17. Gate 18 sits in the Spleen and is read as a corrective instinct, an alertness to what is flawed and could be set right; elsewhere it pairs with Gate 58 in the channel of Judgment. Gate 17 sits in the Ajna and is read as the forming of opinions, logical viewpoints seeking to be organised and offered to others; it pairs with Gate 62 in the channel of Acceptance.

So a chart carrying this cross holds an Identity centre pair of self-regard and tolerance on the surface, while beneath it a splenic instinct for correction answers to a mind still shaping its opinions. The hexagrams are ancient texts; reading four of them together as one transpersonal cross is the modern system's own construction, dated to 1987.

The Left Angle Cross of Prevention, in this ordering, is named for Gate 10 and Gate 15 rather than Gate 15 and Gate 10, the same four gates as its mirror cross with the personality and design roles exchanged. Its first article reads that exchange as self-conduct now answering to a correcting instinct. What it does not trace is where the four gates sit on the wheel itself, the Human Design mandala's division of its sixty four gates into four Quarters, and by that measure this ordering draws on exactly the same four Quarters as its mirror, one gate from each.

Gate 10, the personality gate here, falls in the Quarter of Mutation, purpose fulfilled through transformation. Gate 15, its personality partner, falls in the Quarter of Civilization, purpose fulfilled through form. Behind them, Gate 18 falls in the Quarter of Duality, purpose fulfilled through bonding, and Gate 17 falls in the Quarter of Initiation, purpose fulfilled through mind.

So the self-regard and tolerance the first article reads on this ordering's surface still draw on the arcs of transformation and form, while the corrective instinct and the formed opinion beneath them still draw on the arcs of bonding and mind, the same four arcs its mirror cross draws on with personality and design simply reversed. Reversing which gate carries the Sun changes what the cross is read to serve, but it changes nothing about which Quarters supply its four gates.
