Right Angle Cross of Explanation (4/49)

The Right Angle Cross of Explanation is named for Gate 4 and Gate 49, the same pair that names the Juxtaposition Cross of Formulization, here read inside the personal Right Angle family instead. Human Design reads Gate 4, from Hexagram 4, Youthful Folly, as the mental urge to supply answers and hypotheses to questions still open, and Gate 49, from Hexagram 49, Revolution, as the sense of what is acceptable, deciding whether an arrangement continues or is broken off. It falls in the Right Angle family, and practitioners describe that group as the personal one, a direction shaped by what the individual decides.

Its design half is Gate 23 and Gate 43. Gate 23 sits in the Throat and is read as assimilation, the voice that turns a strange individual insight into language other people can actually take in; elsewhere it pairs with Gate 43 in the channel of Structuring. Gate 43 sits in the Ajna and is read as individual insight, a sudden inner knowing that arrives whole and cannot easily be explained to anyone; it pairs with Gate 23 in that same channel.

Where the Juxtaposition reading of these same named gates holds the pattern as fixed, the Right Angle reading answers to personal choice, a mind still generating answers and a judgment of what is acceptable meeting an insight that waits on its own translation. The hexagrams are ancient; grouping them into one personal cross is the modern system's own construction, dated to 1987.

So the offered answer and the judgment of what is acceptable the first article reads on this cross's surface answer to the arcs of bonding and mind, while the telling of an insight and the insight itself beneath them answer to the arcs of form and transformation, the same four arcs the rest of the Explanation family draws on however its two pairs are assigned to personality and design. Four gates, four different Quarters, no pair sharing an arc: this cross draws its whole reading from every corner of the wheel's own purpose rather than concentrated in one.
