Right Angle Cross of Maya (32/42)

The Right Angle Cross of Maya completes the cross's four role arrangements, here with Gate 32 and Gate 42 exposed. Human Design reads Gate 32, from Hexagram 32, Duration, sitting in the Spleen, as the instinct for what will last, and caution about change for its own sake; and Gate 42, from Hexagram 42, Increase, sitting in the Sacral centre, as the energy to carry a process through to its natural end. It falls in the Right Angle family, and practitioners describe that group as the personal one, a direction shaped by what the individual decides.

Its design half is Gate 62 and Gate 61. Gate 62 sits in the Throat and is read as detail, the organising of facts into a spoken order; it pairs with Gate 17 in the channel of Acceptance. Gate 61 sits in the Head and is read as the pressure to know the mystery behind existence; it pairs with Gate 24 in the channel of Awareness.

So a chart carrying this cross weighs what will last while finishing what it starts on its surface, while beneath it a namer of facts presses after an unanswerable mystery. With this fourth arrangement in place, all of the Right Angle Cross of Maya's role rotations are now complete, the same two gate pairs turned through every position the system allows. Both hexagrams are old texts; pairing them this way as a life direction dates from the system's founding in 1987.

What it does not trace is where the four gates sit on the wheel itself, the Human Design mandala's division of its sixty four gates into four Quarters, and by that measure this cross draws one gate from each of the four.

Gate 32, the personality gate, falls in the Quarter of Duality, purpose fulfilled through bonding. Gate 42, its personality partner, falls in the Quarter of Initiation, purpose fulfilled through mind. Behind them, Gate 62 falls in the Quarter of Civilization, purpose fulfilled through form, and Gate 61 falls in the Quarter of Mutation, purpose fulfilled through transformation.

So the caution about lasting and the drive to finish the first article reads on this cross's surface answer to the arcs of bonding and mind, while the naming of facts and the pressing after mystery beneath them answer to the arcs of form and transformation. Four gates, four different Quarters, no pair sharing an arc: however Maya's two gate pairs are rotated through its four role arrangements, the wheel's own arithmetic supplies one gate from each of its four Quarters and no more.
