The Right Angle Cross of Planning completes its four role arrangements with this ordering, Gate 40 and Gate 37 exposed, the will's need for solitude ahead of the family bargain. Its first article reads Gate 40 as the willpower to work, held against a real need for aloneness and rest, and Gate 37 as the warmth of family and friendship, the bargain that holds a household together. What it does not trace is where the four gates sit on the wheel itself, the Human Design mandala's division of its sixty four gates into four Quarters, and by that measure this cross draws one gate from each of the four.
Gate 40, the personality gate here, falls in the Quarter of Duality, purpose fulfilled through bonding. Gate 37, its personality partner, falls in the Quarter of Initiation, purpose fulfilled through mind. Behind them, Gate 16 falls in the Quarter of Civilization, purpose fulfilled through form, and Gate 9 falls in the Quarter of Mutation, purpose fulfilled through transformation.
So the will that needs to withdraw and the felt bargain of belonging the first article reads on this ordering's surface answer to the arcs of bonding and mind, while the proven skill and the attention to small detail beneath them answer to the arcs of form and transformation, the same four arcs the rest of the Planning family draws on however its two pairs are assigned to personality and design. With this fourth arrangement in place, every role rotation of Planning's two gate pairs shares the same wheel wide spread, one gate from each Quarter regardless of order.
