This article records tradition as it has been passed down and reported. Its sources are not yet part of the atlas's verified catalogue.
The Right Angle Cross of the Sleeping Phoenix, in this ordering, is named for Gate 20 and Gate 34, the fourth and final arrangement of the family's two gate pairs, following the same two pairs already carried by the orderings named for 59 and 55, 34 and 20, and 55 and 59. Its first article reads Gate 20 as awareness and expression occurring now rather than in reflection, and Gate 34 as pure power, most potent simply being itself, a directly connected exposed half. What it does not trace is where the four gates sit on the wheel itself, the Human Design mandala's division of its sixty four gates into four Quarters, and by that measure this ordering draws on exactly the same four Quarters as the rest of the family, one gate from each.
Gate 20, the personality gate here, falls in the Quarter of Civilization, purpose fulfilled through form. Gate 34, its personality partner, falls in the Quarter of Mutation, purpose fulfilled through transformation. Behind them, Gate 55 falls in the Quarter of Initiation, purpose fulfilled through mind, and Gate 59 falls in the Quarter of Duality, purpose fulfilled through bonding.
So the present awareness and the raw power the first article reads on this ordering's surface answer to the arcs of form and transformation, while the swinging mood and the dissolved barriers beneath them answer to the arcs of mind and bonding, the same four arcs the rest of the Sleeping Phoenix family draws on however its two pairs are assigned to personality and design. With this fourth arrangement in place, all of the cross's role rotations draw on the same four Quarters, one gate from each, regardless of which pair sits exposed.
