Right Angle Cross of the Sleeping Phoenix is a Right Angle Incarnation Cross built on Gate 34 and Gate 20. Gate 34, Great Power (Hexagram 34, Great Power), sits in the Sacral centre and is read as pure power, most potent simply being itself; Gate 20, The Present Moment (Hexagram 20, Contemplation), sits in the Throat and is read as awareness and expression that occur now rather than in reflection. It sits in the Right Angle family, the most populous of the three, and Human Design reads that family as steered chiefly by personal choice. Both hexagrams are old texts; pairing them this way as a life direction dates from the system's founding in 1987.

The Sleeping Phoenix, Power Read From Its Other End

The Right Angle Cross of the Sleeping Phoenix carries the same channel as the cross above with sun and earth exchanged, Gate 34 and Gate 20, still directly connected in the channel of Charisma, now with power the more exposed half. Human Design reads Gate 34, from Hexagram 34, Great Power, sitting in the Sacral centre, as pure power, most potent simply being itself rather than aimed at anyone; and Gate 20, from Hexagram 20, Contemplation, sitting in the Throat, as awareness that occurs now rather than in reflection. It sits in the Right Angle family, the most populous of the three, and Human Design reads that family as steered chiefly by personal choice.

Its design half is Gate 59 and Gate 55, also exchanged. Gate 59 sits in the Sacral centre and is read as the energy that breaks down barriers between people; it pairs with Gate 6 in the channel of Mating. Gate 55 sits in the Solar Plexus and is read as an emotional weather swinging between melancholy and abundance; it pairs with Gate 39 in the channel of Emoting.

Putting raw power ahead of present awareness changes what this cross puts forward first, while the same barrier dissolving urge and unnamed mood sit beneath it regardless of order. The same channel, unreversed, is also another Cross of the Sleeping Phoenix, with two further role arrangements of the same channel. Both hexagrams are old texts; pairing them this way as a life direction dates from the system's founding in 1987.

Sleeping Phoenix, the Same Four Quarters With the Halves Reversed

This article records tradition as it has been passed down and reported. Its sources are not yet part of the atlas's verified catalogue.

The Right Angle Cross of the Sleeping Phoenix, in this ordering, is named for Gate 34 and Gate 20 with the personality and design halves reversed from the ordering named for Gate 59 and Gate 55, the raw power now carried consciously and the dissolved barriers carried behind it. Its first article reads this as power read from its other end, with present awareness placed ahead of a swinging mood. What it does not trace is where the four gates sit on the wheel itself, the Human Design mandala's division of its sixty four gates into four Quarters, and by that measure this ordering still draws on exactly the same four Quarters as the rest of the family, one gate from each.

Gate 34, the personality gate here, falls in the Quarter of Mutation, purpose fulfilled through transformation. Gate 20, its personality partner, falls in the Quarter of Civilization, purpose fulfilled through form. Behind them, Gate 59 falls in the Quarter of Duality, purpose fulfilled through bonding, and Gate 55 falls in the Quarter of Initiation, purpose fulfilled through mind.

So the raw power and the present moment voice the first article reads on this ordering's surface answer to the arcs of transformation and form, while the dissolved barriers and the swinging mood beneath them answer to the arcs of bonding and mind, the same four arcs the rest of the Sleeping Phoenix family draws on however its two pairs are assigned to personality and design. Reversing which pair is conscious changes what the cross puts forward, but not which Quarters supply its four gates.
