This Right Angle Cross of the Sphinx is named for Gate 13 and Gate 7 in that order, the listener placed ahead of the leader. Human Design reads Gate 13, from Hexagram 13, Fellowship, as the one to whom others tell their stories and confide the past, and Gate 7, from Hexagram 7, The Army, as the self cast in a role of leadership, guiding others without necessarily holding formal power. It sits in the Right Angle family, the most populous of the three, and the system reads that family as steered chiefly by personal choice.

Behind that pair, Gate 1 and Gate 2 form the design half, both in the G, or Identity, centre once again. Gate 1 is read as the urge to give an individual creative direction some outward form, pairing elsewhere with Gate 8 in the channel of Inspiration. Gate 2 is read as the receptive sense of where a life is meant to go, pairing with Gate 14 in the channel of the Beat.

Placing the listener ahead of the leader changes what this variant of the Sphinx cross puts forward, witness before guidance, though the same four Identity centre gates run beneath every ordering in the family. Its first article reads this as the listener placed ahead of the leader, carried consciously rather than behind the pair that names the cross's other orderings. What it does not trace is where the four gates sit on the wheel itself, the Human Design mandala's division of its sixty four gates into four Quarters, and by that measure this ordering still draws on exactly the same four Quarters as the rest of the family, one gate from each.

Gate 13, the personality gate here, falls in the Quarter of Initiation, purpose fulfilled through mind. Gate 7, its personality partner, falls in the Quarter of Duality, purpose fulfilled through bonding. Behind them, Gate 1 falls in the Quarter of Mutation, purpose fulfilled through transformation, and Gate 2 falls in the Quarter of Civilization, purpose fulfilled through form.

So the witness and the leadership the first article reads on this ordering's surface answer to the arcs of mind and bonding, while the creative expression and the receptive direction beneath them answer to the arcs of transformation and form, the same four arcs the rest of the Sphinx family draws on however its two pairs are assigned and ordered. Whichever gate carries the Sun and whichever pair is conscious, the wheel's own arithmetic supplies the same four Quarters.
