The pilgrimage to Nankana Sahib, Guru Nanak's birthplace in present day Punjab, Pakistan, draws thousands of Sikh pilgrims from India and around the world each year, most heavily around Gurpurb, the anniversary of Guru Nanak's birth. Because the site lies across the India-Pakistan border, the pilgrimage has historically depended on special cross-border arrangements between the two governments, most recently the Kartarpur Corridor opened in 2019 for the separate but nearby Gurdwara Darbar Sahib Kartarpur.
