The Adorers of the Blood of Christ (A.S.C.) are a centralized Catholic religious institute of consecrated life of pontifical right for women, founded on 4 March 1834 in Acuto, Italy, by Saint Maria De Mattias, combining contemplative adoration with active apostolic service, chiefly education. Pope Pius IX issued a decree of praise approving the congregation's work in 1855, and by De Mattias's death in 1866 the sisters had established sixty four schools across Italy, the Kingdom of Naples and London; the congregation later founded Sacred Heart Junior College in Wichita, Kansas, in 1933, which grew into Newman University. By 2020 the congregation counted approximately 1,119 members headquartered in Rome, and in 1992 five of its sisters were killed during Liberia's first civil war.
