Anglican Order of Preachers

The Anglican Order of Preachers, sometimes called Dominicans, is an Anglican religious order founded in the United States in the late 1990s by Episcopal priest Jeffery Mackey, who traced its spiritual heritage to the thirteenth century Catholic priest Dominic de Guzman while stating that the order has no official ties to the Roman Catholic Order of Preachers Dominic founded. Recognized as a Christian community within the Episcopal Church, it operates across the Anglican Communion with married and unmarried members, both ordained clergy and laypeople, who follow a third order rule under vows of simplicity, purity and obedience. The community is organized geographically into houses led by priors and gathers annually to celebrate the feast of Saint Dominic, with its stated aim to capture the spirit of Dominic's original thirteenth century preaching movement in contemporary settings through prayer, community, study and preaching.
