Community of Saint Martin

The Community of Saint Martin is a Catholic public clerical association of pontifical right comprising priests and deacons, founded in 1976 by French priest Jean-Francois Guerin, emerging from the Archdiocese of Tours under the patronage of Cardinal Giuseppe Siri of Genoa. The community emphasizes traditionalist Catholic worship, with members wearing cassocks and celebrating Mass in Latin with Gregorian chant and an ad orientem orientation, using the Novus Ordo form; as of 2023 it counted 185 priests and deacons plus more than 100 seminarians serving across 30 dioceses in France, Germany, Austria, Cuba and Italy. Members are typically deployed in groups of at least three to maintain community life, working in parishes, schools, nursing homes and chaplaincies. The community received full pontifical recognition in 2000, established its Mother House and seminary at the former Evron Abbey in northwestern France beginning in 2014, and has been led as general moderator by Paul Preaux since 2010.
