The Community of St Andrew is an Anglican religious order of professed sisters in the Diocese of London, Church of England, founded in 1861 by Elizabeth Ferard with the encouragement of Bishop Tait of London; Ferard herself was ordained the first deaconess of the modern Anglican Communion on 18 July 1862. Originally based near King's Cross before moving to Tavistock Crescent, Westbourne Park, in 1873, the community's early work centred on deaconess training, parish work, nursing and teaching. It stopped accepting new recruits in 1987, once women could be ordained directly as deacons and priests, and its remaining sisters relocated to St Mary's Convent in Chiswick in 2002.
