Community of St Mary the Virgin

The Community of St Mary the Virgin, abbreviated CSMV, is an Anglican religious order based at Wantage in Oxfordshire, England, and one of the oldest surviving religious communities in the Church of England. It was founded in 1848 by the Reverend William John Butler, vicar of Wantage, emerging from the Oxford Movement's spiritual revival aimed at restoring reverence and beauty to Anglican worship, and became one of the first religious orders established in the Church of England since the Dissolution of the Monasteries. Its sisters have engaged in education, healthcare, spiritual direction and support for vulnerable populations including the elderly, mothers and infants, people with learning difficulties, and those recovering from addiction.
