Community of the Holy Name

The Community of the Holy Name, now formally the Community of the Mission Sisters of the Holy Name of Jesus, is an international Anglican religious order for women founded in 1865 by Father George William Herbert in London, initially as St Peter's Sisterhood alongside his parish work. The community operates under decentralised governance across three provinces, each with its own elected superior: England, based in Hessle, East Riding of Yorkshire since 2021; Lesotho, established 1962; and KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, founded 1969. As of recent record the English province numbers 17 sisters, including two living a solitary life and two in residential care, with sisters engaged in parish work, education, healthcare and social welfare across their regions.
