The Congregation of the Mission, commonly called the Vincentians or Lazarists, is a Catholic society of apostolic life for men operating under pontifical right and forming part of the wider Vincentian Family. Vincent de Paul founded the congregation on 17 April 1625 in Paris together with priests Anthony Portail, M. Belin, Francis de Coudray and John de la Salle, seeking to formalize missionary work he had already carried out among France's most vulnerable rural populations. The congregation's motto, drawn from Luke 4:18, translates as He sent me to bring Good News to the poor. Headquartered in Rome, the congregation maintains about 3,100 members across roughly 95 countries, engaged in clergy formation, religious education and missionary work.
