Hngettwin Gaing

The Catubhummika Hngettwin Gaing, officially the Catubhummika Mahasatipatthana Hngettwin Gaing, is a monastic order of Buddhist monks in Burma (Myanmar), centered on Mandalay and founded around 1888 by the abbot of Hngettwin Monastery. It is one of nine monastic organizations legally sanctioned under Myanmar's 1990 Law Concerning Sangha Organizations, and it follows an austere, minimalist approach to Buddhist ritual: members reject practices they consider inconsistent with Buddhist doctrine, including the worship of nat spirits, and focus their devotion on the Buddha's memory and teachings rather than on venerating Buddha images. As of 2016 the order counted 1,445 monks, about 0.27 percent of all monks in Myanmar, led by its tenth Ganadhipati, H.H. Maymyo Sayadaw Baddhanta Vijaya.
