Order of Julian of Norwich

The Order of Julian of Norwich is a contemplative community of nuns in the Episcopal Church, founded in 1985 by the priest John Swanson, known by his religious name Father John-Julian, initially in Connecticut before settling at White Lake, Wisconsin. The community centers its monastic life on prayer, contemplation and manual labor, with members rising at 3:30 in the morning for daily offices, mass and community work before evening compline at 7:00 pm, under a semi-enclosed rule balancing prayer, work and recreation. Reverend Mother Hilary has served as the community's elected Guardian since 2010, and the order became entirely female in 2021 following the founder's death, though its oblate and associate affiliations remain open to both men and women.
