Society of the Precious Blood

The Society of the Precious Blood is an Anglican religious order of contemplative sisters following the Rule of St Augustine, established when its founder, Millicent Taylor, later Mother Millicent Mary, made her first profession on St Luke's Day in 1905 at St Jude's Church, Birmingham. The community relocated to Burnham Abbey, Maidenhead, in 1916, a site that had housed Augustinian Canonesses before the Reformation, and began an African expansion in 1957 with a priory in Lesotho that became an autonomous province in 1966, later adding a house in Kimberley, South Africa. As of 2024 the English community had significantly diminished, with its remaining sisters relocating to care facilities as Burnham Abbey was put up for sale.
