Tablighi Jamaat

Tablighi Jamaat is an international Islamic religious movement founded by Muhammad Ilyas Kandhlawi around 1926 or 1927 in the Mewat region of British India, with its formal base established near Nizamuddin in Delhi. It arose as a response to what its founder saw as moral decline and religious neglect among Muslims, and it describes itself as apolitical, emphasizing personal religious renewal centered on six core principles: the declaration of faith, prayer, religious knowledge, respect for fellow Muslims, sincerity of intention, and proselytization. Members undertake short missionary tours known as khuruj to remind other Muslims of core Islamic teachings, and the movement is estimated to have between twelve and eighty million adherents across more than 150 countries, concentrated mostly in South Asia, making it one of the most influential religious movements in twentieth century Islam.
