The Yogoda Satsanga Society of India is a nonprofit, nonsectarian spiritual organization founded by Paramahansa Yogananda in 1917 as the Indian branch of the Self-Realization Fellowship, which he created in 1920 to preserve and spread his teachings. Its core mission is making the teachings of Kriya Yoga available to the public through spiritual practice and meditation, and its name combines yoga, meaning union, with da, meaning that which imparts, and satsanga, meaning fellowship in truth. Headquartered in Dakshineswar, Kolkata, and currently led by Brother Chidananda as president, the society operates more than 200 centers across India and Nepal, and Yogananda's 1946 book is described as an international bestseller that has appeared on lists of the century's most important spiritual texts.
