A woodcut portrait of Pope Boniface IV, made for Hartmann Schedel's Liber Chronicarum, the Nuremberg Chronicle, printed in 1493. Boniface IV is remembered chiefly for obtaining the Pantheon from the Byzantine emperor Phocas and consecrating it as a church, the first of Rome's great pagan temples turned to Christian worship. Held today by the Rijksmuseum.
