Depicted SubjectBridget of Sweden founded the order shown receiving its rule in this relief, the Order of the Most Holy Savior, commonly called the Bridgettines, at Vadstena around 1344, on a rule she said had been revealed to her directly by Christ; unusually for the period it housed monks and nuns together in double monasteries, all under the authority of an abbess rather than an abbot. 1 Physical Form
