It shows the sage Patanjali, recognizable by his serpent's tail, kneeling before a linga shaded by a tree and throwing flowers on it from a basket with his right hand, an act of devotion consistent with Patanjali's traditional identification as a partial incarnation of the serpent Shesha or Ananta.
