The Ordo Novi Templi (Order of the New Templars) was an Ariosophist order founded in 1907 by Jorg Lanz von Liebenfels, based at Werfenstein Castle on the Danube in Austria, where Liebenfels flew a swastika banner as an emblem of his racial-esoteric doctrine. Drawing, like Guido von List's circle, on a mystical reading of Germanic and Aryan racial destiny, the order combined pseudo-monastic and chivalric ritual with Liebenfels's own published racial theology. It is treated in the scholarship, alongside List's Armanism, as one of the two chief early strands of Ariosophy from which the runic-nationalist milieu surrounding the later Germanenorden and Thule Society drew.
