De Praestigiis Daemonum

De Praestigiis Daemonum is Johann Weyer's own sixteenth century primary text arguing against the reasoning behind contemporary witch prosecutions, in substance a direct rebuttal of the Malleus Maleficarum. The year recorded, 1563, is the first edition specifically; the work went through several later enlarged editions, and the demon catalogue now known as the Pseudomonarchia Daemonum was only added as an appendix to the fifth edition, of 1577, a distinction this atlas keeps separate rather than blurring the two dates. Use it to establish what Weyer's own original argument said; the later demon catalogue is a separate later addition with its own separate citation.
