Kyogyoshinsho

The Kyogyoshinsho is Shinran's own foundational text of Jodo Shinshu, Pure Land Buddhism, setting out the doctrine of salvation through Amida Buddha's other power and faith rather than self effort. As Shinran's own primary composition it is the correct source for what the tradition's founder actually taught in his own words. Its limit is that Shinran composed and revised it progressively over many years rather than at one sitting, and the exact dating of its final form is disputed among scholars, so this record deliberately gives no single publication year, and a claim needing a specific compositional date should be checked against the scholarly literature on the text's textual history.
