Its strength is genuine comparative range built from contributors with expertise in specific regional traditions, Tamil, Jain, folk and others, showing how differently the story is told and understood depending on community and region. Its limit, as with any edited volume, is that depth and coverage vary chapter to chapter depending on which variant a given contributor addresses, so a claim about one specific regional Ramayana is best checked against the chapter covering it directly rather than the volume as a uniform whole.
