National Library of Russia, Firkovich Collection, Leningrad Codex (MS Firkovich B 19A)

The National Library of Russia in St Petersburg is the custodian institution holding the Leningrad Codex, catalogued as Firkovich B 19A, the oldest complete manuscript of the Hebrew Bible, dated by its own colophon to 1008 or 1009 CE. As the holding institution it is the correct source for the manuscript's provenance, physical description and custodial history. Its limit is that a library's own holding record documents the object itself, not the text-critical scholarship built on it, so a claim about how the Leningrad Codex's readings compare to other Masoretic witnesses, or its use as a base text for critical editions, needs a text-critical scholarly source in addition to this custodial one.
